I hesitate to admit that I never aspired to become an Author. I was satisfied being a caterpillar and was not interested in metamorphosing. I was satisfied hanging from a branch of a tree snuggled up in my cocoon. The Creator of the Universe did not give me the opportunity to voice my opinion about the matter.

Being an African American growing up in Southern America was not peaches and cream. It may have been the land of dreams for some, but not all. However, I am grateful that in spite of the fact that the door of opportunity was not completely opened to people of color, some still managed to squeeze through, opening it a little wider so others could follow in their footsteps. After many years of praying, struggling, marching, and singing “We shall overcome someday” and the Negro National Anthem:
